Decorating Tips
De-personalize and De-clutter
Our homes are our sanctuary from the hectic and fast-paced life that we live. We surround ourselves with photos of our family and friends. We showcase our personalities with all types of accessories and with souvenirs from family vacations throughout the home.
However, putting your home on the market to sell changes all that. We now have to look at our home through the eyes of a potential buyer. The goal of staging is to make it easy for the potential buyer to easily see their family living in your home. One of the ways to accomplish this goal is to take all personal photos down. At the very least, group a few together in similar frames in a hallway. This also holds true for accessories. Pack up anything throughout the house that you can live without for a short time to avoid a cluttered look. Display a few “like items” together for visual uniformity. De-clutter bookshelves, kitchen counter tops, bathroom counter tops, closet shelves, etc. This gives the home a clean and “room to spare” appearance.
Just think, if you already have most of the unessential items packed up…..when the house sells, you have half the packing done!
